Opposition United National Movement leader Khatia Dekanoidze has accused the ruling Georgian Dream party of steering Georgia away from the European Union and towards Russia.

Dekanoidze said Georgian Dream, founded by Bidzina Ivanishvili, had failed to secure Georgia’s place within the EU’s “peace and prosperity” framework.

“Bidzina Ivanishvili’s Georgian Dream has done everything to prevent Georgia from becoming part of the European Union’s peace and prosperity umbrella and establishing its place in the civilised world, and instead has taken us towards the place from which the Black Death spreads - Russia,” Dekanoidze said.

She called on Georgia’s European partners and those supporting the country’s European future to ensure that Ivanishvili and his political allies are held accountable for what she described as actions directed against the Georgian people.
