Opposition politician Khatia Dekanoidze has accused Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze of hypocrisy after opposition leader Levan Khabeishvili was sentenced to prison.

In a social media post on Thursday, Dekanoidze said Kobakhidze was criticising democratic standards in Denmark while, according to her, the Georgian authorities were imprisoning a politician for public speech.

“Kobakhidze is worrying about democracy in Denmark, while at the same time, on the instructions of his direct superior, the system sentences a politician to two years in prison for public speech,” she wrote.

Dekanoidze argued that political promises and public statements were a normal part of political activity and accused the authorities of selectively applying justice.
