Leader of opposition Droa party, Elene Khoshtaria, has stated that it is important the European Court of Human Rights is observing Saakashvili’s issue.

The court said in its recent interim decision that Saakashvili should stop his 42-day hunger strike and demanded from the Georgian government to ensure proper medical care for the former president.

The court said nothing about Saakashvili’s transfer to a civil clinic as it was demanded by the applicant.

Khoshtaria says that the interim decision of the court may change, while the court said that Saakashvili is really on hunger strike and not speculating with the issue as the Georgian Dream officials say this.

Khoshtaria has been on hunger strike for nine days, demanding Saakashvili’s transfer to a private clinic from the Gldani No.18 prison hospital.

Saakashvili was convicted in Georgia back in 2018 in absentia  for abuse of power and was sentenced to six years in prison.

Saakashvili has also been charged with illegal takeover of property, illegal rally dispersal, embezzlement and illegally crossing the border.
