Eleven individuals have been charged in connection with corruption and related crimes following a large-scale anti-corruption operation carried out across several regions of Georgia, the State Security Service said on Saturday.
Emzar Gagnidze, the Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service, said four people were arrested in four separate criminal cases uncovered during the operation.
The cases include large-scale fraud linked to road rehabilitation projects, bribery involving a National Food Agency employee who allegedly issued forged certificates, the circulation of counterfeit US currency in the capital city of Tbilisi and fraud related to concrete road works in the western Samegrelo region.
Investigators say the alleged crimes caused significant financial damage to the state and, in several cases, resulted in infrastructure being deemed unfit for use.
The State Security Service said court-authorised covert investigative measures were used, yielding audio and video evidence. The Anti-Corruption Agency stated it will continue efforts to identify and prevent corruption nationwide.
