Several fighters from the Akhmat special forces unit, initiated by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, were captured during clashes in Russia’s Kursk region, according to a video released on Sunday by the Ukrainian-affiliated Telegram channel Khochu Zhit.

The video, which allegedly shows over 20 captives, claimed that the fighters had tried to flee to avoid capture, contradicting Kadyrov’s earlier statements that Akhmat fighters had not surrendered. Three of the captured individuals identified themselves as residents of Grozny.

Earlier that day, Kadyrov posted on Telegram, claiming that Akhmat forces, in cooperation with the Russian Marine Corps, had destroyed Ukrainian and NATO equipment and personnel in the region. He has not commented on the capture of his fighters.

The Ukrainian Defence Forces reportedly entered the Kursk region on August 6, advancing 30-35 kilometers into Russian territory.
