The suspect has been accused of bypassing border control to enter Georgia

Police in Georgia have detained a citizen of Azerbaijan on suspicion of illegally crossing the country’s state border, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

The 26-year-old man, identified only as Ch.G., has been accused of bypassing border control to enter Georgia, the MIA said. 

Investigators noted he was arrested on the Tbilisi–Marneuli highway while travelling in a vehicle.

The offence carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years.
