Ex-security service deputy chief appointed Georgia’s deputy justice minister

Former State Security Service first deputy head Lasha Magradze has been appointed deputy justice minister of Georgia, the Justice Ministry said on Thursday.

Magradze is a lawyer and graduated from the Faculty of Law at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and Columbia Law School.

He has 20 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, working in areas including criminal justice, the enforcement system, the judiciary, judicial training, anti-corruption policy, the rule of law and human rights.

The Justice Ministry said Magradze had also worked with international partners on institutional and programme reforms in the justice sector.

Before joining the Justice Ministry, he served as first deputy head of Georgia’s State Security Service.
