The United National Movement (UNM) has said it has not left the opposition alliance, although it has not participated in the alliance’s meetings for some time, citing a lack of progress on key issues.
Lasha Parulava, a member of the UNM’s governing council, told Front News that the party did not consider it appropriate to continue attending meetings because the alliance had failed to reach an important stage.
“We have not participated in the alliance’s meetings for quite some time and have informed the public about this on several occasions. We have neither left the alliance nor are we currently participating in its meetings. They know why we are not attending,” Parulava said.
He added that the absence of the UNM logo from a new image published on the opposition alliance’s Facebook page was not a significant issue for his party.
Parulava said the UNM maintained normal personal relations with other alliance members and would participate in major protests or joint political initiatives when necessary.
He also stressed that the UNM was Mikheil Saakashvili’s party, adding that those who disagreed with Saakashvili also disagreed with the UNM.
