The National Council of Electronic Media of Latvia (NEPLP) has revoked the domestic license for the Russian TV channel Dozhd, which calls itself an “opposition” TV broadcaster, Delfi reported on Tuesday.

NEPLP head noted the decision was made after assessing the channel’s recent violations, which included the lack of audio recording in the state language for the broadcast, the image of Crimea on the map as part of Russian territory, the TV presenter calling the Russian army “our army” and others.

“The management of TV channel Dozhdi does not understand the importance and seriousness of the violations and, therefore, cannot act on the territory of Latvia ”, said the agency leadership, with the decision coming into effect on December 8.

The former presenter of Dozhdi Aleksey Korostelev spoke about the help of the Russian military on the air.

Soon, the State Security Service of Latvia started an investigation into the statements, which raised the suspicion that the TV channel was providing assistance to the military of the Russian occupation forces.
