Levan Machavariani, first deputy chair of the Georgian Dream parliamentary faction, has described opposition leader Nika Gvaramia as a “foreign agent” and claimed that opposition politicians serve the interests of foreign powers.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Machavariani said Gvaramia, former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, opposition leaders Mamuka Khazaradze, Badri Japaridze, Giorgi Vashadze and others would “always carry out any task” assigned by foreign actors.
“About 230,000 Georgians voted for this agent in the 2024 parliamentary election. Why are you doing this? Don’t you have families, children or parents? Why do you want to sacrifice these people?” Machavariani wrote.
He also claimed that those who supported opposition parties in the 2024 election should thank the approximately 1.2 million voters who backed Georgian Dream.
“The conscious choice of those voters preserved peace and stability in our country,” Machavariani wrote.
