A man hospitalised after an alleged assault by police in the central Georgian city of Gori could be discharged within 72 hours if his condition remains stable, according to doctors.

Levan Ratiani, director general of the First University Clinic in Tbilisi, on Friday said the patient underwent a comprehensive medical examination after being transported to the hospital by emergency medical services.

According to Ratiani, a CT scan did not reveal any focal injuries, while biochemical tests and consultations with specialists from multiple medical disciplines have been completed.

"At this stage, the patient's condition is stable," Ratiani said, adding that the patient remains in the neurology department for continued monitoring and observation.

He said doctors will continue to assess the patient's condition in the coming days and that discharge is expected within 72 hours if no new symptoms or clinical signs associated with any underlying condition emerge.

The patient, identified as Papuna Lotsulashvili, was allegedly assaulted by law enforcement officers in the Kombinati settlement of Gori. His condition reportedly deteriorated late on Thursday night, leading to his transfer to hospital.

Six people have been detained in connection with the incident.
