Levan Sanikidze, a leader of Georgia’s United National Movement, on Monday said the fact that the US Vice President was visiting Armenia and Azerbaijan but not Georgia was a “worrying development” for the country.
Sanikidze stressed that Georgia was the main US ally and European partner in the region between 2003 and 2012, under the UNM rule of the country.
“Georgia, which was the United States’ key partner in the South Caucasus and hosted US presidents and vice presidents between 2003 and 2012, when the country became a central anchor for Europe and America in the region, is now being bypassed. The US Vice President is not visiting Georgia but is going to Armenia and Azerbaijan, which is a concerning fact for the country,” Sanikidze said.
The US Vice President, Jay D. Vance, is scheduled to visit Armenia today and will also travel to Azerbaijan.
