Georgia’s government approves around 95% of applications for foreign grants, according to Head of the Government Administration Levan Zhorzholiani, who said the remaining cases involve projects that do not meet the government’s stated criteria.
Under changes introduced in recent years, foreign grant agreements require approval from the Georgian government, with applications reviewed by the Government Administration.
“The positive rate is 95%, which underlines the government’s attitude towards projects that correspond to Georgia’s state interests,” Zhorzholiani said.
He added that the government could not support projects that it considers inconsistent with state interests or that directly or indirectly involve what he described as the unlawful use of funds in political processes.
“If a project does not correspond to state interests, or if it directly or indirectly involves the unlawful spending of funds in political processes, naturally, the Georgian government cannot have a positive position on it,” Zhorzholiani said.
