Lithuania expresses solidarity with Georgia on anniversary of April 9 tragedy

Lithuania has reaffirmed its support for the Georgian people as they mark the anniversary of “two key events” in the country’s modern history – the Soviet military crackdown of April 9,1989 and the declaration of independence also on April 9, 1991.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry expressed solidarity with Georgia, highlighting shared historical experiences and a common aspiration toward European integration.

“On the Day of Georgian National Unity, we join the Georgian people in commemorating the tragic events of the Soviet military crackdown on April 9, 1989, and the events of the restoration of independence on April 9, 1991,” the statement read. “Lithuania stands with the Georgian people as they continue to fight for a European future.”
