Gas leak suspected after two explosions injure young woman in Tbilisi

Two powerful explosions were reported in the Lotkini district of Tbilisi on Tuesday, leaving a 19-year-old woman injured. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

Preliminary findings suggest the blasts were caused by a gas leak, authorities said.

The Interior Ministry confirmed that an investigation has been launched under Articles 240 and 240¹ of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which relate to breaches of safety regulations during construction or other work, and violations of operational rules resulting in risk to life.

Police and emergency services remain at the scene, while investigators continue to examine the circumstances of the incident.
