Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has described Ukraine as the victim of Russian aggression and said it has the right to defend its territorial integrity.
"I want to state very clearly on behalf of the Hungarian government that Ukraine is the victim and Russia is the brutal aggressor. Ukraine has the right to defend its territorial integrity," Magyar told journalists in Ankara, where a NATO summit is being held.
He said Hungary would continue providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine but would not offer military support.
Magyar said he had a brief conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the summit and that they had agreed to hold a bilateral meeting in the future.
He also said Hungarians believed in the strength and unity of NATO.
"Our common interest is to have a united NATO, and we are ready to make Hungary a reliable ally again," Magyar said.
He added that the Hungarian government had already decided to gradually increase defence spending and aimed to reach the target of spending 5% of gross domestic product on defence by 2035.
