Hungary’s incoming government, led by Péter Magyar, plans to establish friendly relations with Ukraine as one of its key foreign policy priorities, the leader of the TISZA Party said at a press conference.

According to Magyar, the future government will seek to build alliances and where possible, friendly relations, with all neighboring countries, emphasizing that stable regional ties are in Hungary’s national interest.

Responding to a question about a potential meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Magyar stated that such a meeting is inevitable.

“We will definitely meet if nowhere else, then at the Council of Europe,” he said.

Magyar also criticized Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his party, Fidesz, accusing them of using tensions with Ukraine for domestic political purposes.

“In Hungary, everyone knows that Ukraine is a victim in this war,” Magyar noted, adding that no one has the right to decide on behalf of Ukrainians under what conditions Kyiv should make peace with Russia.
