Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng is visiting Georgia, with talks expected to focus on strengthening political ties and expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
Georgia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Maka Botchorishvili, has described the visit as an important step towards deepening relations between Tbilisi and Beijing.
Speaking to journalists on Friday, Botchorishvili said the recent development of bilateral relations and their elevation to a strategic level were significant not only for Georgia but also for the wider region.
She said the visit provided an opportunity to discuss the current state of relations between the two countries, as well as their potential for further cooperation, particularly in the economic sphere.
“This is the first time a guest of this rank from China has visited Georgia,” Botchorishvili said.
She added that the visit would allow officials to assess opportunities for expanding cooperation across different sectors.
During his stay, Han Zheng is scheduled to meet Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and President Mikheil Kavelashvili.
A meeting with representatives of the Georgian business community is also planned, with discussions expected to focus on economic opportunities and prospects for closer cooperation.
Botchorishvili said engagement with business representatives would be an important part of the visit and could contribute to the further development of economic ties between the two countries.
