Minor arrested on extortion charges in Marneuli

Officers from the Marneuli District Division of the Lower Kartli Police Department have arrested a minor on charges of extortion involving a large amount of property, Georgia's Interior Ministry has said.

The investigation found that the suspect had been systematically extorting money and valuables from a fellow student since September 2025 through intimidation and threats of physical violence.

Investigators alleged that the victim handed over 1,350 lari in cash and gold jewellery worth approximately 10,000 lari to the accused on various occasions.

The Interior Ministry said the suspect was arrested following a series of operational and investigative measures conducted as part of the case.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 181 of Georgia's Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years in prison.
