Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a recent shooting incident in eastern Georgian city of Marneuli, while charges will be filed against another suspect already in custody, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Saturday.

The body added officers from the Kvemo Kartli, Kakheti and Central Criminal Police Departments conducted joint investigative and operative measures, leading to the arrests. The suspects are accused of group extortion for large-scale property gain and the illegal purchase, possession and carrying of firearms. The offences are punishable by up to seven years in prison.

The investigation determined that in September 2025, a criminal figure named Elmuraz Mamedov, a convicted offender wanted on an Interpol red notice and currently residing abroad, called a local businessman identified as N.A. and demanded that he deliver $50,000 to Turkey.

After the businessman refused, Mamedov allegedly offered $10,000 to three Georgian residents D.M., E.O., and A.A to damage the facade of N.A.’s auto parts store. The suspects carried out the order, firing automatic weapons at the storefront and shattering its glass facade.

Through coordinated police operations, officers arrested E.O. and D.M., both of whom have reportedly confessed and are cooperating with investigators.

The third suspect, A.A., who was previously arrested on Friday on charges of conspiracy to commit a contract killing and illegal possession of firearms, will be formally charged in a penitentiary facility in connection with the Marneuli case.
