The Migration Department of Georgia’s Interior Ministry has detained 14 foreign citizens during a special immigration control operation aimed at combating illegal migration.

According to the ministry, the operation was based on prior intelligence and targeted specific locations to identify foreign nationals residing in Georgia without legal grounds.

Those detained included citizens of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Turkmenistan. Authorities said the individuals were found to be in violation of the country’s law on the legal status of aliens and stateless persons.

The detainees have been placed in the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre while deportation procedures are underway.
