Georgia's Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has announced that officers from the Migration Department carried out special immigration control operations across the country, resulting in the detention of 54 foreign nationals residing in Georgia illegally.
The Ministry on Friday said those detained include citizens of Nigeria, India, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Jordan, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Turkmenistan, China, Pakistan and Lebanon.
As part of the operation, Migration Department officers inspected specific locations and various types of facilities nationwide to identify foreign citizens residing in Georgia without legal grounds.
The ministry said the investigation established that the detained individuals had violated the requirements of Georgia's Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.
The detainees have been transferred to the Migration Department's Temporary Accommodation Center. Relevant legal procedures are currently underway to facilitate their expulsion from Georgia, the MIA said.
