Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has congratulated pupils, students, teachers and families on the start of the new academic year, stressing the importance of education in shaping the country’s future.

“Education shapes not only an individual’s opportunities but also the future of the country,” Kavelashvili wrote on Tuesday.

He said a strong and independent state is built by a generation capable of thinking freely and acting responsibly, while respecting Georgia’s history and national values and having the knowledge, skills and ambition to build a better country.

The official added the state has a responsibility to provide young people with access to quality, fundamental education, allowing them to realise their potential in Georgia and use their knowledge for the country’s development.

The president also highlighted the role of teachers, thanking them for their professionalism, commitment to national values and responsibility in educating each new generation.

“I wish you a successful and productive academic year,” Kavelashvili said.
