Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has praised the country’s athletes for their performances at the Winter Olympic Games, saying the nation is proud to see its flag represented alongside major sporting powers.

Summarising his working visit to Milan, the President said Georgian competitors had delivered strong results so far, while expectations remain high for a historic outcome at the Games.

“The whole of Georgia is proud that, alongside such large and successful countries, our flag is flying. We have great hope that these Olympic Games will bring a historic result. The process has begun - yesterday our athletes performed quite well, we are proud of their performances, but we are awaiting the final results,” Kavelashvili said.

He noted that Italy is hosting the 25th Winter Olympic Games at a high organisational level.

“These are very well-organised Winter Olympic Games. Italy is hosting excellently, the organisation is of a high standard. On the first day, I had the opportunity to attend a reception hosted by the International Olympic Committee together with leaders from various countries. We had many pleasant meetings in this format. On the second day, there was a reception hosted by the President of Italy, again attended by leaders of countries participating in the Games, which gave us the chance to speak with them. I also attended the performances of our figure skating athletes,” the President said.
