Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili and First Lady Tamar Bagrationi visited St Matthias the Apostle church complex in Batumi on Monday.

The couple was hosted by Dimitri, Metropolitan of Batumi and Lazeti, alongside the head of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and his wife, the presidential press service said.

The metropolitan briefed the visitors on the complex's facilities, ongoing and planned projects, and its future development plans.

Kavelashvili and Bagrationi also visited the St Matthias the Apostle Gymnasium, which has operated at the complex since 2022 and currently has around 120 pupils.

The school combines academic education with religious instruction and creative activities, the presidential administration said.

During the visit, the president and the first lady toured the gymnasium's educational and arts facilities, including a cinema and a mosaic workshop.
