Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has met Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan in Tbilisi to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation, including trade, investment, transport and tourism.

The meeting took place at the Presidential Palace during Xuan’s official visit to Georgia, the president’s press service said.

The two sides discussed strengthening high-level political dialogue and broadening cooperation in education, culture, technology and scientific research.

Kavelashvili congratulated Xuan on her re-election as vice president and said her visit created new opportunities to develop relations between the two countries. He also thanked Vietnam for supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Georgian side welcomed the prospect of opening a Georgian embassy in Vietnam and expressed hope that Vietnam would eventually establish a resident embassy in Georgia.

The talks also focused on Georgia’s transit and logistics potential and the development of the Middle Corridor, a transport route linking Europe and Asia.

Both sides discussed the possibility of establishing direct air links, saying they could help boost tourism, business connections and people-to-people exchanges.
