Georgian MP Mikheil Kavelashvili on Monday expressed sorrow over the passing of Pope Francis, paying tribute to the late pontiff’s legacy as a global spiritual leader.

Posting on social media platform X, Kavelashvili extended condolences on behalf of the Georgian people to the Holy See, the Catholic Church, and millions of believers around the world.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis,” he wrote. “Pope Francis will be remembered as a spiritual leader of profound humility, compassion, and courage – a steadfast advocate for peace, human dignity, and unity across nations and faiths.”

He praised the pope’s “moral clarity and unwavering commitment to fostering a more just and compassionate world,” adding that his legacy would continue to inspire future generations.

Pope Francis, the first Latin American and Jesuit pope, served as the head of the Catholic Church from 2013 until his death.
