Georgia labor minister meets Business Association members over construction safety standards

Georgia’s Minister of Internally Displaced Persons, Labour, Health and Social Affairs Mikheil Sarjveladze, together with Labour Inspection Service head Beka Peradze, met with members of the Georgian Business Association to discuss occupational safety standards in the construction sector.

The meeting on Tuesday focused on labor safety regulations, relevant legislation and enforcement practices.

Sarjveladze stressed the importance of effective implementation and enforcement of safety regulations, saying that strict compliance with occupational safety standards and ensuring the lives and health of employees are a shared responsibility and priority of the state and private sector.

The participants reviewed the current situation regarding occupational safety in the construction sector, inspection results and enforcement practices. They also discussed ways to prevent workplace accidents and strengthen a culture of safety among employers.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue between the state and business in effectively implementing safety standards and improving working conditions. The participants reviewed monitoring trends and violations identified by the Labour Inspection Service and discussed practical recommendations aimed at improving the working environment.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Labour Minister Giorgi Tsagareishvili, Parliament Health Care and Social Issues Committee Chairman Zaza Lominadze, Georgian Business Association Executive Director Levan Vepkhvadze and representatives of the Labour Inspection Service.
