Police in Georgia have arrested four people on suspicion of illegally purchasing, possessing and facilitating the sale of especially large quantities of drugs as part of an organised group, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has said.
The suspects include both Georgian and foreign nationals.
According to the ministry, searches of the suspects and their homes, as well as investigative measures carried out at various locations, led to the seizure of nearly 1.5 kilograms of marijuana allegedly prepared for sale, along with 66 packages of the drug.
Investigators alleged that the suspects divided the drugs into small packages and placed them in hiding places at various locations across Tbilisi before selling them through an online platform.
Police also seized materials allegedly used for packaging drugs, the ministry said.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260 and 260¹ of Georgia's Criminal Code, which carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment, according to the ministry.
