Seven people, including Georgian and foreign nationals, have been arrested at different times on charges of illegally acquiring and possessing particularly large quantities of drugs and facilitating their sale, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said on Monday.
A comprehensive investigation established that the suspects were involved in drug distribution schemes in various capacities, including acting as part of organised groups, the MIA press office said.
During searches of the suspects, their homes and vehicles, law enforcement officers seized particularly large quantities of various drugs, including 352 packages of alpha-PVP, mephedrone, methadone, clephedrone, MDMA, dried marijuana and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
Police also seized materials used for packaging narcotic substances, the ministry said.
The offences carry penalties of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
