Polish President Karol Nawrocki convened an informal meeting with the presidents of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Romania ahead of the upcoming North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit, with regional security and coordination among the alliance's eastern flank topping the agenda.
The meeting was held at the Polish president's seaside residence in Jurata. The leaders discussed regional cooperation, security in the Baltic and Black Sea regions, and key transatlantic issues, while also exchanging views on recent tensions in relations between Poland and Ukraine.
As NATO leaders prepare to meet in Ankara, the five presidents sought to coordinate their positions on regional security and border protection.
The Polish president's office said the discussions focused on regional cooperation priorities, security challenges facing NATO's eastern flank, and broader transatlantic relations.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Nawrocki also held talks with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, during which the two discussed relations between Poland and Ukraine.
Nausėda said Lithuania was prepared to help ease tensions between Warsaw and Kyiv, stressing that unity among regional allies remains essential while Russia's war against Ukraine continues.
“The past is very important, but it should not become an obstacle. Today, our common security comes first, and Russia's aggression against Ukraine remains the main threat," Nausėda said.
