The effective tariff rate on goods imported from China to the United States has now reached 145%, up from the previously announced 125%, according to CNBC, citing the White House.

The report explains that when President Donald Trump signed the order on Wednesday to raise tariffs on Chinese goods from 84% to 125%, this increase referred to an additional rate that did not include the already existing 20% “base” tariff on Chinese imports. A White House official quoted by CNBC clarified that both rates should be combined to reflect the total effective tariff now applied to Chinese products.

President Trump declared on Wednesday that the tariff increase to 125% would apply to all Chinese goods. He justified the decision by accusing China of showing “disrespect toward global markets.”

According to Trump, the changes will take effect immediately.

At the same time, the president announced a 90-day delay in the imposition of additional tariffs on imports from over 70 other countries.
