Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, has responded to the Prosecutor’s Office’s decision to initiate criminal proceedings against several opposition figures, portraying the move as a sign of government weakness rather than strength.
In a social media statement addressed to opposition politicians, civil society, and media, Gvaramia credited what he called the united refusal of opposition MPs to recognize the legitimacy of the current Parliament for placing the government under pressure.
He claimed that this stance had rendered the ruling authorities “unrecognized and isolated,” both domestically and internationally.
“Your moral superiority has crushed the ruling party and stripped it of the ability to act rationally,” Gvaramia wrote, addressing opposition leaders whom he referred to as “political prisoners” and “hostages of the regime.”
He argued that the government had been unable to suppress ongoing public protests or identify leaders to target, despite adopting “increasingly repressive laws.”
Gvaramia also expressed gratitude to civil society organizations and independent media for their role in sustaining public resistance, stating that Georgia was nearing a decisive moment.
“Just a little more - the oligarchy must fall!” he declared, adding a pointed remark directed at the ruling party: “I will sabotage you, Georgian Dream.”
The statement comes as criminal charges have been brought against Gvaramia and other opposition figures, including Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Vashadze, Nikanor Melia, Zurab Japaridze, Elene Khoshtaria, Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze.
