Opposition leader Gvaramia: I learned about questions over human rights advocate Jorbenadze’s death from ex-PM Garibashvili’s letter

Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, said after questioning by investigators that he learned about the questions surrounding the death of human rights advocate Lazare Jorbenadze from former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili’s letter.

“The question was whether I knew anything additional about the death of Lazare Jorbenadze. I explained that I learned about it from Garibashvili’s letter,” Gvaramia said after leaving the questioning.

According to Gvaramia, investigators asked him no questions other than those concerning Jorbenadze’s death.

He said Garibashvili had raised a serious question that naturally concerns the public, but stressed that he himself does not know the answer.

Gvaramia also said he expected two possible developments following the investigation. One, he said, would be a “propaganda” narrative portraying Garibashvili as fighting Bidzina Ivanishvili while Gvaramia and others were supporting him, which he called false. The other, he said, could be the filing of new charges against Garibashvili for allegedly making a false report.

Gvaramia added that, as far as he knew, investigators were expected to question Garibashvili in prison as part of the same inquiry.
