Georgian educator and civil activist Nino Datashvili has been released from the women’s No. 5 penitentiary facility in Rustavi after the court agreed to replace her pre-trial detention with a 5000 GEL bail.

The request to modify the preventive measure was submitted by the Prosecutor’s Office and supported by both the defence and Datashvili herself. The bail money was collected within minutes, according to her supporters.

Datashvili was detained on 20 June in relation to an incident that occurred on 9 June at Tbilisi City Court. She has been charged under Article 353², Part 3 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which concerns assault on a public official while performing their lawful duties - an offence punishable by either a fine or four to seven years of imprisonment.
