Ruling party members demand accountability for opposition member who sprayed paint on CEC Chair

Members of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party have called for legal action against David Kirtaidze, an opposition United National Movement member, who sprayed black paint on Central Election Commission (CEC) Chair Giorgi Kalandarishvili during a summary session.

Nino Tsilosani, a GD MP, condemned the act, labeling it a “sadistic crime” and urging for accountability.

“They’ve been trying to normalize such disgraceful behavior as activism. Let’s call it what it is – a crime and a sadistic act! Everyone responsible must face proper consequences,” Tsilosani wrote in a social media post, denouncing what she described as a celebration of violence by opposition supporters online.

Another GD member, Mariam Lashkhi, called the incident “another stain” on the opposition.

“This disgraceful act is yet another stain among the many black marks of the United National Movement. They are a black mark on the nation. The worst part is that some applaud Kirtaidze’s behavior. With such a mentality, cruelty, and inhumanity, they will never find a place in society,” Lashkhi stated.

She further emphasized that Kirtaidze and others like him have no place in Georgian politics and must be held accountable for their actions.

The incident, which caused a temporary halt to the CEC session, has sparked widespread debate, with ruling party members framing it as a criminal act and opposition supporters viewing it as a form of protest.
