Norway has called on the Georgian government to release individuals it described as “unjustly detained” during pro-European protests sparked by the Georgian Dream authorities’ decision late last year to delay the country’s integration into the bloc until 2028 and to halt what it viewed as an ongoing crackdown on civil society, independent media, and freedom of expression.

In a statement by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oslo expressed concern over recent developments in Georgia, urging authorities to uphold democratic values and fundamental rights.

“Norway calls for the release of those unjustly detained and an end to the repression of civil society, free media and freedom of expression in Georgia,” the statement read.
