Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has said Hungary has no intention of leaving the European Union, arguing instead that the bloc will eventually disintegrate due to what he described as chaotic governance.

Speaking on the issue, Orbán accused Brussels of pursuing policies aimed at cutting Hungary off from Russian energy supplies. He stressed that despite ongoing disagreements, Hungary’s withdrawal from the EU is not realistic, noting that the country lacks the scale for such a decision to be sensible.

The Hungarian PM said the country’s future lies within both the European Union and NATO, but with a sovereign foreign and economic policy.

“EU membership is an important opportunity, but if we were locked only into this bloc, we would merely be drinking the juice. It makes sense to have the best possible relations with all blocs, including the United States, Russia, China and the Arab and Turkish worlds,” Orbán said.
