Over 2,300 Russians granted Georgian citizenship in 2024, official data reveals

A total of 2,361 Russian nationals were granted Georgian citizenship in 2024, making up the majority of the 3,587 people who received citizenship that year, according to new data from the National Statistics Service of Georgia (Geostat).
The figures highlight Russia’s leading position among countries whose citizens became Georgian nationals, far outpacing Germany (251) and Ukraine (175).
Geostat also reported that data concerning citizens of Iran and the Islamic Republic who acquired Georgian citizenship remains confidential.
In the same year, 1,592 people had their Georgian citizenship revoked. The largest number – 802 individuals – lost their status after acquiring Russian citizenship. Greece followed with 200 such cases.
