Paata Davitaia, chairman of the European Democrats party, has said that while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ recent statements were positive, they must be followed up with concrete action rather than remaining at the level of declarations.
He noted that Georgia’s current relationship with the US State Department has limited the country’s diplomatic leverage.
“The Foreign Ministry’s statement is good, but it requires work, not just staying at the level of statements,” Davitaia said. “If it weren’t for the poor attitude of the ruling party toward the US State Department, the situation regarding Georgia would be much better. Correct steps need to be taken in several directions, first and foremost engaging actively with the State Department. Today, however, Georgian Dream has virtually no contact with the US State Department, which has repeatedly indicated what is needed to strengthen relations.”
