German ambassador congratulates Shio III on election as Patriarch

Germany’s ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, has congratulated Shio III on his election as the new Catholicos-Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

In a social media post on Monday, Fischer offered his congratulations to the newly elected patriarch, formerly Metropolitan Shio Mujiri of Senaki and Chkhorotsku.

“Congratulations to Metropolitan Shio Mujiri, now Shio III, on his election as Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, and best wishes,” the ambassador wrote.

Shio III was elected earlier on Monday during the expanded Church Council of the Georgian Orthodox Apostolic Autocephalous Church.

The enthronement ceremony for the new patriarch is scheduled to take place on Tuesday at Svetitskhoveli Cathedral.
