Petre Tsiskarishvili, the General Secretary of Georgia’s opposition party the United National Movement, has praised the United Kingdom for its efforts to support Ukraine and counter Russian aggression.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Tsiskarishvili said that weakening Russia in Ukraine would also reduce its influence across the wider region.
“The United Kingdom is doing a great deal to assist Ukraine, strengthen it, and stop Russian aggression there. In doing so, it also weakens Putin, the Kremlin, and their partners across the region,” he said.
Tsiskarishvili added that Georgian authorities should not act prematurely in the process, warning against positioning themselves as allies to the West out of fear of Russia. “At this stage, no one in Georgia should rush ahead and signal to the West, ‘I was with you, I was just afraid of Russia,’” he said.
