One Person Arrested in Georgia for Unlawfully Obtaining and Sharing Private Images

Georgian prosecutors have arrested one person on charges of unlawfully obtaining, storing and distributing material containing details of another person’s private life.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, an investigation by the Kakheti District Prosecutor’s Office established that the suspect had illegally obtained photographs depicting the victim’s private life and stored them on a mobile phone.

The suspect later allegedly distributed the images to several people through a social media platform without authorization.

The individual was arrested on August 14 and is expected to be charged under Article 157¹, Part 1 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which covers the unlawful acquisition, storage and dissemination of private-life material.

The offence carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

The Prosecutor’s Office said it will ask the court to order pre-trial detention within the timeframe prescribed by law.
