PM Garibashvili hands filled part of EU questionnaire to ambassador Hartzell

Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili has handed the completed first portion of the EU questionnaire to European Union Ambassador Carl Hartzell earlier today which Georgia received on April 11 in the wake of the country’s bid for membership to the bloc.

 

Garibashvili said that the Georgian authorities had plans to deliver the second part of the questionnaire, containing about 2,300 questions on sectoral issues, ahead of the scheduled date, May 13.

 

Hartzell wished Georgia success and said that he was honored to participate “in this historic process.”

 

After receiving the completed questionnaire, the European Commission will start preparing its own evaluation report which will be submitted to the Council of the European Union, and the relevant decision on the EU candidate country status is expected by the end of June.

 

Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova applied for EU membership shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.

 

Previously Georgia had plans to submit an application for membership by 2024.
