Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili has responded to the ruling Georgian Dream party’s critical statement towards President Salome Zourabishvili over the “violation of the country’s constitution” and making ‘dangerous statements’ over Ukraine and stid that the president ‘seems to be misled.’

The ruling party stated today that they are ‘forced’ to address the country’s Constitutional Court for it to confirm the president really violated the law when she decided to visit several EU-member countries shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine without the government’s consent.

“Any citizen of Georgia, especially the country’s top officials are obliged to respect and act in accordance with the main law, the constitution. Unfortunately,I have to point out that the president was misled. I hope that everything will be cratified soon and questions will be removed,” Garibashvili said.

He stated that the government did not allow the president to leave for the EU after Russia invaded Ukraine as ‘we believed that at that time, when there was a complicated situation in the region, the president should have been in Georgia.’
