The Georgian Interior Ministry on Monday announced it had arrested a Russian citizen, identified only by the initials D.K., during ongoing protests in capital Tbilisi against the Georgian Dream Government’s decision late last year to halt the country’s EU integration until 2028.
The MIA claimed the suspect, who allegedly concealed his face with a special mask, had damaged its vehicle on central Rustaveli Avenue on March 28 before fleeing the scene.
Since November 2024, when protests in support of Georgia’s EU integration erupted, police have arrested dozens of individuals on various criminal charges, while hundreds more have been detained for administrative offenses. Among those detained previously, several were also Russian citizens.
The protests have persisted for over three months, with demonstrators demanding new parliamentary elections and the release of individuals they claim have been unlawfully detained.
No law enforcement officers have been detained so far for violence during protests.
