Two foreign citizens arrested in Georgia over large-scale drug trafficking

Georgian police have arrested two foreign nationals on suspicion of possessing exceptionally large quantities of narcotics and facilitating their sale as part of an organised operation, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

The ministry said officers from the Gldani-Nadzaladevi Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department carried out the arrests during an investigation into alleged drug trafficking.

Searches of the suspects and their temporary residence in Tbilisi resulted in the seizure of an exceptionally large quantity of narcotics, including 331 packages of marijuana allegedly prepared for distribution, the ministry said.

Police also confiscated materials allegedly used for packaging narcotics.

The offences are punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment or life imprisonment.
