Irakli Kobakhidze , the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday’s called president Salome Zourabichvili’s statements in her annual, parliamentary speech “concerning”, adding she had made “many incomprehensible” comments.

“When the president of the country talks about the fact that Georgia did not deserve the status of a candidate last year, in the background when the European Union itself admitted that the refusal was unfair, all this is disturbing. When the president announces that Georgia will not deserve the status of a candidate this year, it is, of course, disturbing. This is not the position of a person who should take care of her own state interests”, Kobakhidze said.

In response to the president’s comments that the government’s claims on the opening of the second front in Georgia was “conspiracy”, Kobakhidze advised Zourabichvili to think about her previous statements on the Russia-Georgia war.

Zourabichvili earlier claimed that “unreasonable” steps of the previous United National Movement authorities had allowed Russia in 2008 to occupy 20 percent of the country’s territories.
