“Prime Minister will never sign anything that could harm Georgia,” parliamentary majority leader Kirtskhalia says

Georgian parliamentary majority leader Irakli Kirtskhalia has said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze would never sign an agreement that could undermine the country’s national interests, while highlighting Georgia’s strategic partnership with China and its pragmatic foreign policy.

Speaking on the television programme Open Air, Kirtskhalia made the remarks in response to comments by political analyst Vazha Beridze.

“The Prime Minister will never sign anything that could ultimately work against our country,” Kirtskhalia said.

The parliamentary majority leader also responded to Beridze’s description of China as a potential future strategic partner of Georgia, stressing that the two countries already enjoy strategic partnership relations.

“I would like to make a small correction here. China is already our strategic partner, and we are proud of that. We are deepening this partnership year after year,” Kirtskhalia said.

Turning to economic developments, Kirtskhalia said Georgia’s foreign exchange reserves had surpassed $7 billion, reaching what he described as a historic high.

He attributed the development to the government’s diversified economic relationships and pragmatic approach to foreign policy.

“This is also a result of our multi-vector economy and pragmatic policies,” he said.

Addressing Georgia’s relations with the United States, which Beridze had mentioned alongside China, Kirtskhalia emphasised that the country pursued international partnerships based on dignity and mutual respect.

“I want to tell the public one thing: we never beg anyone for anything. God forbid that a self-respecting nation should have to beg anyone. At the very least, 1.12 million people neither kneel nor plead on their knees for anything,” he said.

“We have our own dignified positions on every issue,” Kirtskhalia added.
