The Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against five individuals in connection with a violent group attack and resistance against police officers in the village of Kheltubani, Gori Municipality.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the incident occurred around 1:00 AM on July 16, when police stopped a vehicle driven by a minor without a valid license. The officers explained the nature of the offense, prompting verbal and physical abuse from the underage driver and a passenger under the influence of alcohol.
As police attempted to detain one of the individuals, a group of intoxicated persons arrived at the scene. One of them swung an axe at an officer, causing injury, while the underage suspect stabbed two officers, inflicting life-threatening wounds.
Three others intervened to prevent the arrests, collectively resisting the officers.
Three individuals have been charged under Article 353, Part 2(a) of the Georgian Criminal Code for resisting law enforcement officers with violence or threats thereof—an offense punishable by up to eight years in prison.
Two others face more severe charges under Article 353¹, Part 2¹(a) and Article 19-353¹, Part 3, relating to attempted murder of a police officer and serious bodily harm inflicted in connection with official duties. These charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years or life imprisonment.
The Prosecutor’s Office has already submitted a motion requesting pre-trial detention for all accused.
